Background: On February 1, 2021, military leaders in Myanmar (the southeast Asian nation also known as Burma) led a coup, arresting the democratically elected President and other leaders and committing acts of oppression and violence. Since the coup, more than 700 people have been killed by the military, including protestors, bystanders, women and children. These actions take place in the context of ongoing human rights violations in Myanmar and a history of oppression against critics of military rule, as well as against vulnerable populations and ethnic minority groups.  The situation is urgent, with acts of violence and oppression occurring every day. The Myanmar community in Austin is holding a food fundraiser for their family and friends in Myanmar who are in need.
