Pastor’s Note

I hope your exploration of this website gives you some insight into who we are as the Austin Mennonite Church. Please email or call me if you would like to know more.

I have been the  pastor of AMC since June 2011. Prior to this pastoral assignment I served in pastoral ministry in two other locations, Kansas and Washington State.

My undergraduate degree is in English. I have a Master of Divinity degree and a Doctor of Ministry degree.

I grew up in Northern Illinois near Chicago. I served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. I spent two years in Vietnam on the edge of Saigon with a logistical unit. My military experience was a catalyst for significant soul-searching about faith and ethics. In my late twenties I chose to follow the way of Jesus. The Mennonite perspective connected with my search for a Christian faith that went beyond personal salvation language. At its best, the Mennonite tradition exemplifies peace, justice, reconciliation, healthy community, humble service, and love of God and neighbor in the way of Jesus.

I am interested in a Christian faith that is inclusive and embracing. For me, following the way of Jesus means knowing that God loves me, forgives me, empowers me to walk in newness of life, helps me to love others, and inspires me to work for the good of humankind and creation.

As you search for a God connection and for a faith community, I pray that God’s Spirit will guide you.
